Oita is known as Onsen-ken (おんせん県) and the most famous onsen place in Japan. Onsen means the hot springs. Many tourists are coming for onsen from all over Japan and the world.
You can enjoy onsen in various styles. Most famous way is bathing in the hot springs. Additionally, you can enjoy onsen in other ways. Looking around particular onsens (Jigoku) is popular ,which is called "Jigoku-meguri" (地獄めぐり). You will be surprised at red collar onsen and crocodiles in onsen.
One of the Jigoku became famous suddenly these days. That is Kamado-Jigoku. This is because Kamado-Jigoku has Kamado shrine and the name is same as the main character in Kimetsu-no-Yaiba ,which is so famous Japanese anime. So the fan of the anime visited this shrine and Kamado-Jigoku for anime pilgrimage.
The other way of enjoying onsen is Jigoku-mushi (地獄蒸し). You can also enjoy onsen through food. Jigoku-mushi is a way of cooking which uses steam heat from onsen for warming vegetables ,eggs and even pudding. Jigoku-mushi brings out its original flavor. So it will be new sensation for you.
Oita has a famous autumn leaves spot. That is Kinrinko Lake (金鱗湖). Many tourists come here to see wonderful autumn leaves and enjoy onsen, too. The view of the lake and autumn leaves is so spectacular . Additionally, this lake has a mysterious point. A hot spring gushes forth from the bottom of the lake. So you can see a morning fog when you visit Kinrinko Lake in winter. This is the very mysterious. Please watch it by yourself.
There are any other attractive spots. Harmonyland is a popular spot for travelers. You can meet various kinds of Sanrio characters, such as Hello Kitty (キティちゃん) ,My Melody (マイメロディ) and Kero Kero Keroppi (けろけろけろっぴ). These cute characters ease your mind.
